Fashion Fun: New Year, New Gear; Saints of Miami

Casual Luxury was the goal with this fit -

Fit styled by Johnny Blanco

This fit is a little different than the ones I have styled in the past. Most times I am mixing designers and paying homage to other artists. This time almost everything I paired was from one designer, Yves Saint Laurent.

I wanted to create a fit that would be at home at an Art Gallery in the Wynwood Arts District as well as an after party on a Vanquish Motoryacht.

The House of Yves Saint Laurent was founded in 1961 by none other than Yves Mathieu-Saint-Laurent and Pierre Berge.  It’s was located in the city of Paris at 30Bis Rue Spontini.

Yves Saint Laurent revolutionized the way fashion and society merge and interact in the 1960’s with the introduction of high-end made clothes produced on a larger scale than the exclusive collections.

Pierre Berge interviews Yves Saint Laurent

Since its inception, the House of Yves Saint Laurent has held influence both inside and outside the fashion industry. Over the years, its founder, the couturier Yves Saint Laurent secured a reputation as one of the 20th century’s foremost designers and personalities.

No, it wasn't some cool sneakers that gave this idea the spark. It was a pair of loafers. These cream colored Le Loafer Penny loafers by Saint Laurent caught my eye and I couldn’t stop thinking about them. They were the catalyst that would create this outfit.

The beautiful leather with exquisite details screamed luxury but the ease of a loafer cries out comfort. This was my goal, to mashup my need of comfort with a luxury look.

To keep the casual luxury vibe going I found the Saint Laurent Floral-print Bomber Jacket.

I matched it with a pair of black Saint Laurent jeans. The quality and craftsmanships is amazing but I’m not sure why there is a silver chain underneath the label on the inside of the jeans. I guess I’ll be googling that one.

I found accent pieces like a logo belt, embossed credit card wallet, Cuban link bracelet and a double cross necklace, all on Ysl.com

One of my favorite finds is this pair of vintage Yves Saint Laurent 2199s sunglasses. I feel like the bold oversized look of these glasses draw everything together.

To give this fit a playful feel I decided on the Saint Laurent reverse logo tee.

This shirt gives a vintage vibe with the slightly worn logo...

This fit started with an idea; I wanted to create a fit that would be at home at an Art Gallery in the Wynwood Arts District as well as an after party on a Vanquish Motoryacht.  So this time the pairing was a literal pairing, a 3L bottle of Armand de Brignac Champagne

Armand de Brignac, aka; Ace of Spades is one of France most celebrated champagnes. Each bottle of Champagne Armand de Brignac contains a unique dosage, which comprises the finest base wine of the harvest, aged for one year in new French Oak. This winemaking touch provides subtle complexity to the finished cuvées, introducing hints of baked pastry, vanilla and toastiness.

In the 1950s, Nelly Cattier, mother to Jean-Jacques, discovered a character in a novel she was reading, called ‘M. De Brignac’. She found the name noble and registered it for use on a new wine in the future. It was long forgotten, and during the creation of this new tête de cuvée from the house in the early 2000s, Jean-Jacques decided to pay tribute to his mother by adopting this special name, and Armand de Brignac was born.

12th and 13th generation wine growers, Jean-Jacques Cattier and his son, Alexandre, craft the prestige cuvées of Armand de Brignac. Their dream was to create a champagne of the most exceptional quality, that would represent the best of the best from the region, where their family have grown vines for more than 250 years.

The Cattier family is based in the Montagne de Reims and own 33 hectares of vines across some of the most lauded crus in Champagne, including the villages of Rilly-la-Montagne, Chigny-les-Roses and Ludes.

The Armand de Brignac Blanc de Blancs reveals so much about the unique terroir of Champagne. The 100% Chardonnay cuvée is crafted from fruit sourced from both the traditional Chardonnay territory, the Côte des Blancs, and almost half of the blend from Chardonnay sourced from Montagne de Reims. The resulting Blanc de Blancs has a powerful acidity and lightness, elegantly balanced with suppleness and roundness.

Jay-Z’s involvement with Armand de Brignac began in 2006, with his boycotting of former favorite luxury Champagne Cristal, eventually buying it outright in November 2014, acquiring the remaining stake in the business held by New York-based Sovereign Brands.

In 2021 Rap star and entrepreneur Jay-Z has sold a 50% stake in his luxury Champagne brand, Armand de Brignac, to LVMH's wine and spirits arm Moët Hennessy for an undisclosed sum.

"I really think I captured the feel of casual luxury with this fit. Now I have some shopping to do."

I wish you and yours a beautiful New Year.

This mash up involved a European fashion house, a few vintage finds and some high end champagne. All-in-all this is exactly what I needed. A little New, a little vintage and a cold glass of bubbly. Each aspect celebrating a rich heritage of craftsmanship.

I hope you had a break from the mundane and enjoyed the fit that I styled. I do have a deep passion for fashion, but my fashion at my pace. I enjoy a mix of the streets with luxury, it mimic's my art in a way.

Let me know what you think.
